If it is not installed, you will be prompt to install it. That is it! You are now updated to the official distro of Git on your Mac. Git Server allows you to easily install and manage a fully-functional Git server on the macOS platform. If youve already installed and configured git, skip ahead to Learn to use git with RStudio. To see if Git is already installed on your PC, or Mac you need to go to the command line (on Windows), or in the terminal (on Mac). Once it is installed, then type the following two lines, which will set our path to the local git distro instead of the Apple one. ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL )"Īssuming you have homebrew installed, type the following: brew install git In the Terminal window, type the following and press Return: git -version. Open the newly downloaded file an follow the prompts. It is easy just copy and paste this in the terminal window. Mac: Download & Install Git Go to Applications > Utilities and open Terminal.app. The easiest way to install Git on a Mac is via the stand-alone installer, which you can download from here. git -version If you don’t have it installed already, it will prompt you to install it. On Mavericks (10.9) or above you can do this simply by trying to run git from the Terminal the very first time. On a local Macintosh computer, if you type a Git command into your Terminal window (as in git -version above), you’ll be prompted to install Git if it is not already on. The easiest is probably to install the Xcode Command Line Tools. Let’s first update yum, then install Git: sudo yum update sudo yum install git From here, you can continue on to the section on Setting Up Git. Then you are going to want to modify your PATH to make git look for the official distro (which we will install in just a sec) to just /usr/local/bin. Installing on macOS There are several ways to install Git on a Mac. If it comes back with the following result, then you are using Apple’s Git, not the offiical distro of Git.
